The security zone is temporary -- the Coast Guard, state and county will rely on you to help us return to normal operations as quickly as possible.
SECURITY ZONE: Out to 2 nautical miles, includes the harbor entrance channel and is approximately 400 yards wide at the widest point.
If already starting to enter when the red flags go up, slow and stop (if possible) and wait for assistance from Coast Guard or State boats. You may be asked to wait or you may be escorted in.
Please show some Aloha and patience -- Coast Guard and state boat crews have been trained to assist those who make it clear they simply wish to paddle!
PADDLERS: STOP (IF POSSIBLE TO DO SO SAFELY) AND INDICATE TO APPROACHING BOAT CREWS THAT YOU ARE JUST PADDLING AND WISH TO RETURN TO THE BEACH OR HALE ... BUT YOU MAY BE ASKED TO WAIT
SURFERS: PLEASE EXIT THE WATER IF ASKED TO DO SO BY COAST GUARD, STATE OR COUNTY OFFICERS
BOATERS: CALL (808) 927-0865 OR ON VHF CHANNEL 12 FOR PERMISSION TO TRANSIT THE SECURITY ZONE WHILE IT'S IN EFFECT
THE U.S. COAST GUARD, STATE OF HAWAII AND MAUI COUNTY APPROVE OF THIS MESSAGE AND ASK ALL KAHULUI HARBOR USERS TO EXERCISE PATIENCE WHILE THIS SECURITY ZONE IS IN EFFECT. THE GOAL IS TO RETURN TO THE NORMAL 100-YARD SECURITY ZONE AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE.
