A STAND OUT SPOUSE-- Cereto Bean, Hawaii's outstanding military spouse honoree for the U.S. Coast Guard in 2008, accepts her award from the Mayor of Honolulu, Mufi Hanneman, while ceremony attendees congratulate her accomplishments at Honolulu Hale, Friday, Nov. 21, 2008.

The recipients of this year's awards functioned as the volunteer communication and crucial organizational point of contact for their respective military units. This is the fifth consecutive year the Navy League has taken the initiative to honor outstanding spouses.

Other military branch spouse honorees are: Air Force -- Susan Panaro; Army -- Lisa McCafferey; Marines -- Lancia Stewart; Navy -- Shilo Phelchat; Hawaii Air Guard -- Florrenda "Pua" Adona-Duropan; Hawaii Army Guard -- Caroline Tumpap and Special Operations Command -- Gayle Hammerstrom.

Besides Hanneman, other award presenters this year were, (left to right) K. Mark Takai, Hawaii State representative, Maj. Gen. Robert Lee, adjutant general for the State of Hawaii and
Navy League representative, Don Morrison.
