HONOLULU – Coast Guard Capt. Barry Compagnoni, Commander of Sector Honolulu, was relieved by Capt. Joanna Nunan during a ceremony at Base Support Unit Honolulu Friday.

Nunan was previously the Deputy Commander of Sector San Juan. Nunan's previous assignmnets include commanding officer of the Coast Guard Cutters SPAR and Ironwood and executive officer of the Basswood. 

Previous to her assignments afloat Nunan served as the Coast Guard Academy admissions officer, personnel services division chief, deputy director in the Civil Rights Directorate, military assistant to the Secretary of Transportation and as the Coast Guard Innovation Manager.

Compagnoni took command of Sector Honolulu in December 2007 where he held several titles including: Captain of the Port; Search and Rescue Mission Coordinator; Federal Maritime Security Coordinator; Federal On-Scene Coordinator; and Officer in Charge of Marine Inspection.

Compagnoni will be stationed at the American Embassy at Beijing serving as the Coast Guard Liaison Officer to China.

Rear Adm. Stephen E. Mehling, Commander of the Coast Guard’s 14th District, was the presiding official for the ceremony. The ceremony included remarks from Hawaii's Gov. Linda Lingle, representatives from Sen. Daniel Akaka's and Sen. Daniel Inouye's office, and Norman H. Mineta, former Secretary of Transportation.
