Photo Release: U.S. Coast Guard buoy tender assists disabled vessel

HONOLULU – Crewmembers aboard the Coast Guard Cutter Kukui assist a disabled fishing vessel back to Oahu after it had been adrift for eight days, Nov. 8, 2010.

The Seeker II, homeported in Barnegat Light, NJ, had been adrift with a broken propeller shaft approximately 100 miles west of Honolulu. A good samaritan attempted to assist the crew, but as weather deteriorated the towing line parted from the good samaritan’s vessel. The Kukui was deployed to assist and after a 24-hour tow the Seeker II was safely moored in Honolulu Harbor.

The Kukui is a 225-foot Juniper Class Buoy Tender homeported in Honolulu, HI. In addition to servicing aids to navigation throughout the Hawaiian Islands and Western Pacific Ocean, other duties performed by the crew include Search and Rescue, Law Enforcement, Marine Environmental Response, and Homeland Security missions.
