GUAM – Coast Guard Petty Officer 1st Class William N. Horne, an electrician’s mate at Sector Guam, was selected the Coast Guard Combat Veterans Association Person of the Year, Wednesday for his heroism while rescuing five people from a pickup truck engulfed in flames, Feb. 8, 2009.
This honor is just the latest in a series of awards Horne has received.
Horne is an honorary member of the Coast Guard Combat Veterans Association and a recipient of the Coast Guard Medal for heroism. Horne was selected as the Enlisted Petty Officer of the Year for 2009 and he recently he received the 2010 Non Commissioned Officers Association Coast Guard Vanguard award.
Horne, a 10-year active duty Coast Guard member, has served at Sector Guam since 2008.
The CGCVA is a Non-Profit Association of Active Duty Members, Retired Members, Reserve Members, and Honorably Discharged Former Members of the Coast Guard. The CGCVA is dedicated to extending the knowledge of the Coast Guard’s service and participation in those significant historical events in U.S. history.
