HONOLULU — Several Oahu-based Coast Guard units are scheduled to take part in an educational exposition for local high school students at Coast Guard Base Support Unit Honolulu at 9 a.m., Friday. The Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Exposition is a collaborative initiative to promote core technological fields and develop future innovators. Approximately 100 students from Governor Wallace Rider Farrington High School, Kahuku High School, home-schooled children and a student for Kauai High School will have an opportunity to visit Coast Guard boats and helicopters and interact with Coast Guardsmen from various shore and afloat units. “We look forward to showcasing the various missions of the Coast Guard each year to the students. It gives them a better understanding of what the Coast Guard does,” said Cmdr. Maria Galman, the S.T.E.M. coordinator for the 14th Coast Guard District. An MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Air Station Barbers Point is scheduled to conduct a search and rescue demonstration in Honolulu Harbor following the exposition. The S.T.E.M. exposition at Sand Island is not open to the public; however, members of the media are invited to attend. ]]>WHAT: Coast Guard Air Station Barbers Point will be receiving a new MH-65 Dolphin helicopter, which will be replacing one of the current HH-65's. The new model will improve Coast Guard operability throughout the Hawaiian Islands. The Dolphin will be arriving partially dismantled in the back of an HC-130 Hercules aircraft.
